Het Facilitair Bedrijf (Facilities Management Agency), which manages 180 buildings of the Flemish government, saw huge potential to save on its energy expenditure. Many appliances in the buildings were often on standby mode after office hours, and so continued to use electricity unnecessarily. Simply switching off the devices was not an option, nor was a single power-saving policy across all buildings.

Customized energy-saving scripts

Which is why Het Facilitair Bedrijf approached Proximus NXT, which developed tailor-made solutions in partnership with Cisco to save energy. Scripts set up an efficient consumption mode overnight and on weekends, tailored to the appliances in each building. The result is a sharp fall in energy consumption, accounting for significant savings of more than €300,000 per year, while ensuring the continuity of each installation.

This combination of innovation and sustainable development earned Proximus NXT the Computable Award for the government project of the year. The award ceremony took place during the Cybersec Europe trade fair.
