Fiber for your building: do specifications change?
Published on 25/09/2018 in Tech, tips & tricks
More and more companies are switching to fiber. They want to be ready for the digital revolution. With fiberglass, they can browse, stream and exchange files at lightning speed. How do you know whether fiber can be installed on your customers’ building sites? And how do you prepare your building for connection? Proximus has drawn up specifications to help you.
Developing a fiber network in apartment buildings
Proximus is working flat out to upgrade the existing copper network to fiber connections. Apartment buildings with more than 20 units are systematically connected to fiber.
Are you constructing an apartment building with fewer units? If so, it is best to first ask one of our engineering and design experts whether your site can be connected. You can do so by sending an e-mail to the department in your region:
- East and West Flanders: werf.a1@proximus.com
- Antwerp, Limburg and Flemish Brabant: werf.a2@proximus.com
- Brussels-Capital Region: chantier.a3@proximus.com
- Hainaut, Namur and Walloon Brabant: chantier.a4@proximus.com
- Liège and Luxembourg: chantier.a5@proximus.com
Specifications for your construction site
Naturally, once you can confirm that fiberglass is a viable option for your building site, you have to make sure that your building is ready for it. To make things easier, Proximus has drawn up specifications that help you with the rollout. They provide an overview of the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the necessary components and follow the most recent international standards.

Tip: nothing changes for houses
Nothing much has changed as regards to internal cabling for houses. If possible, provide RJ45 cabling. It is also best to include two extra 230V sockets for the fiberglass installation, in addition to the Proximus connection point. The latter is usually located in the laundry room or the garage.
